Dorothy Jean Bush made her First Coast Opera debut as the Mother in Amahl and the Night Visitors of Gian Carlo Menotti. The mezzo-soprano has sung under the direction of such conductors as Robert Shaw, Lara Hoggard and Fabio Mechetti. On the operatic stage, she is best known for her interpretations of Bizet’s Carmen, Saint-Saens’ Samson and Delilah, pants roles of Mozart, and the bel canto repertoire of Donizetti and Rossini. In oratorio, Miss Bush’s repertoire includes Bach’s Christmas Oratorio, Handel’s Messiah, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Durufle’s Requiem and A. Honneger’s King David. Miss Bush relocated to the First Coast in 1987 from Columbus, Georgia. Her past performances as a concert singer and recitalist include opera, oratorio and musical theater. She has sung professionally since 1983 for civic chorales, concert associations and numerous churches in Georgia and Florida. Miss Bush holds a M. M. (Choral Conducting) and B.M. (Voice Performance) from Columbus State University and has 8 years teaching experience in both Georgia and Florida (Music, grades K-12). In 1994, she began working on a Doctor of Music degree in Voice Performance/Vocal Pedagogy at FSU. She will appear as the Witch in the FCO production of Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel in December of 2001. |
